Birds and Animals around Morepork Riverside Lodge

The bird life around Morepork Lodge changes with the seasons. Keep a look out for these birds and make use of the binoculars in your room. We also have some four-legged friends for you to meet at Morepork Lodge.

Mike-the-Morepork and his family in their favourite Manuka tree. Babies are usually here from mid January to late February.

Blue/black plumage with a white 'Cowards' tuft at its neck. It has an interesting 'call' & a beautiful 'song'.

Cheeky little birds who will follow you around our native bush.

Named because he was born on ANZAC day, when Kiwi's remember our fallen soldiers.

Named after a favourite NZ biscuit. Ask us about a delicious 'TimTam-Slam'.

Pooty is sometimes a little timid at first but he's gentle and enjoys a pat once he gets to know you. He is NOT allowed in the guest rooms!

These are the cutest little birds. They run everywhere in a large family groups and only fly when threatened.
